Shakespeare's Villains, Monsters & Madmen (ages 8-11)  CLASS IS FULL

Teacher: Crystal Verdon-Eisele

Dates: Mondays, January 30-April 16 (no class 2/20 or 3/26)

TIme: 4:15-5:45 PM

Details:  Explore some of the best characters ever written! We'll try on our hunchbacks, sport our donkey ears, be marooned on an island with a wizard, and drive ourselves dizzy with love potions...this lighthearted class is for every actor who knows how much fun it is to play the bad guy.

Voice for the Shakespearean Actor (ages 12-18)

Teacher: Laurie Keith

Dates: Tuesdays, January 17-March 20

TIme: 4:30-6 PM

Details: This class provides training for actors looking to develop strong, clear and free voices.  While exploring breath control, projection, diction, pitch, and inflection, students will learn techniques that will enhance their onstage Shakespeare work. The class will use Kristin Linklater's text, Freeing Shakespeare's Voice, as a guide.

Costume Design: Creating Character with Clothes (ages 12-18)

Teacher: Anne Murphy

Dates: Thursdays, January 19-March 22

Time: 4:30-6 PM

Details: There's more to the story than acting.  Explore color, shape, line and texture as you discover how to create the visual life of a character.  No "drawing" or "design" skills are necessary for you to love this class.

Tuition: $225 plus $15 materials fee

Teacher Bios

 

Benaiah Anderson recently performed with the Colorado Shakespeare Festival in Romeo and Juliet, The Comedy of Errors, and The Inspector General, as well as Shakespeare à la Carte.  He is currently an actor in the CSF in the Schools touring production of Twelfth Night, which tours Colorado schools in the fall of 2011.  Benaiah appeared as Barry in Talk Radio with Devil's Thumb Productions, and as King Philip of France in The Lion in Winter for the Arvada Center production, as an understudy.  He teaches stage combat at high schools, universities and theatre companies all over the Front Range, including a recent trip to Creede where he taught a workshop for Creede Repertory Theatre.  
 
 
 
Laurie Keith holds a BFA in Acting from NYU Tisch School of the Arts and an MA in Classical Acting from the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. She has studied with David Mamet, William H. Macy, Felicity Huffman and Cameron Manheim at the Atlantic Theatre Co. in NYC. Teaching credits include; Marin Theatre Company, Kids on Camera, Marin Shakespeare Co., Foothill Theatre Co., New Conservatory Theatre Center and The Yes Program for Children’s Theatre. She has performed Off-Broadway at the Grove St. Playhouse, Atlantic Theatre Co., and LA MaMa ETC, where she wrote and directed an original one act. Her work is published in The Best Women’s Monologues ’98 (Smith &Kraus). Laurie toured 40 states performing with The National Theatre for the Performing Arts. She has also acted in CSF’s A Christmas Carol as well as performing in the San Francisco Bay Area with the Marin, San Francisco, Sierra, and Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festivals, Pacific Alliance Stage Co., Theatre Works and the Mountain Play Association. Television credits include; Pandora (Lifetime), A Private Affair (BET), Full (PBS), and New Living (KRON). Commercial credits include, Pearle Vision, Yahoo! and Levi’s. Her most recent voice over credits include, California State Fair and Lone Mountain Credit Union.
 
Anne Murphy is a theatrical costume designer and teacher. Her design work has been seen at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Portland Center Stage, Indianapolis Repertory Theater, Syracuse Stage, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Williamstown Theater Festival, and American Players Theater. As a design assistant, she has worked at the Huntington Theater (Boston), Tanglewood Music Center, and the Denver Center Theater Company.   Currently, she is an adjunct with the CU Department of Theater and Dance, where she is also a frequent design collaborator. Ms Murphy holds a BA in Theater from California State University, Northridge, and an MFA in Costume Design from Boston University.
 
 
Timothy Orr (Associate Producing Director, Colorado Shakespeare Festival) holds degrees in music and arts management from Cal State Sacramento, and an MFA in theatre from the University of California at Davis.  He has held lecturer positions in classical acting, voice, and musical theatre at the University of California at Davis (where he also founded the UC Davis Summer Musical Theatre Intensive), University of Colorado (Boulder), and was a faculty member of the Berkeley Repertory School of Theatre (CA) for two years.  As an actor he has appeared at numerous theatres across California and been with the Colorado Shakespeare Festival as a performer since 2007, joining the staff in 2011.  For five years he was a resident artist with The Foothill Theatre Company acting, writing, composing and producing theatre with artists from all over the world.  For three years he was the General Manager of The Sacramento Ballet and produced their first international tour to China.  Recent composing includes songs and incidental music for Colorado Shakespeare Festival, TheatreFIRST (Oakland, CA), Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, and The Foothill Theatre Co.
 
 
Crystal Verdon Eisele is part of CSF's school tour of Twelfth Night, featuring an anti-bullying workshop, and will be performing in It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play at CSF this holiday season. She has been a Teaching Artist for over a decade, specializing in Shakespeare, story drama, and character creation. She just returned from a summer which included study at Dell'Arte International School of Physical theatre and extensive traveling around Britain. She is also a Teaching Artist with the Denver Center Theatre Academy and Director of Education and Outreach with the Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company.
