Woody Guthrie's American Song
When Woody Guthrie sang about hard times, he knew what he was singing about—the Depression, the Dust Bowl, high unemployment, and impending war. But he also knew more than a little about the juice and joy of being alive and being an American. The musical, “Woody Guthrie’s American Song,” tells his life story following Guthrie as he travels west from Oklahoma to the migrant camps, from “California to the New York Island.” The musical includes over two dozen songs, including “So Long, It’s Been Good to Know Yuh,” “Bound for Glory,” and, of course, “This Land Is Your Land.” The New York Times said it "manages to find both the high beauty and the earthy humor of Guthrie's love affair with America."
