At the Show
“The play’s the thing—so is the picnic—and there’s more….
Celebrating the works of William Shakespeare, the Colorado Shakespeare Festival is a complete experience for a summer evening. Bring a friend or group of friends or bring the family to:
- Enjoy "Prologue". Forty-five minutes before curtain time, new Producing Artistic Director Philip Sneed (or other CSF company member) will be in the theatre to talk to you about the play you are about to see. These conversations are fun and informal and bound to enhance your playgoing experience.
- The Green Show. Music while you dine may be a capella madrigals or a medley of brass instruments, a flute and string duet, or even, on occasion, a guitar and banjo. See schedule of Green Show entertainers.
- A chat with Will Shakespeare (aka actor Chuck Wilcox) on the green. Will can tell you just about anything you want to know about the play you’re going to see including its stage history. Free of charge.
- A stop at our CSF souvenir booth. Bring home a lasting memory of your visit or shop on-line anytime at the ShakeStore.
- A stroll through the Shakespeare Gardens. These lovely beds contain plants mentioned in the season’s plays, telling you more about Shakespeare’s understanding of the natural world.
- A backstage tour. The tour shows you the technical side of staging a play. Wigs and costumes, props and sets, lighting and stage combat—you’ll see how it all comes together to create magic at curtain time. A fee of $5 per person defrays the cost of having a tour guide.
- An opportunity to meet and talk to the actors. Actors’ Talkbacks after the shows provide you with insights about how and why the directors and actors make the choices they make. Click for dates.
The cap of the evening is, of course, the play—as you enjoy "Shakespeare Under the Stars." Sit back and watch the sun disappear behind the Flatirons, the stars emerge, and the lights come up. It’s a 400-year-old tradition not to be missed!
